John Davie and his Phi'09

Breaking news - 30/05/10 John sets a new 17.5T class track record..........

Sunday the 23rd May was the fourth round of the popular Bedworth summer series on what turned out to be the hottest day of the year so far. The 17.5/27t class is one of the most popular and as a result hard fought classes, with three rounds of qualifying and three leg finals with best two results it was going to be a long hot day.
In qualifying I managed to set FTD on 18/311 and was the only person to break into the 18 laps with second place on 17/300

Final 1: and after getting a good clean start had built up a good lead only for a lapped car to punt me off the track with about half the race gone. Once back on all four wheels i was down in 5th or 6th place and just went on the attack with nothing to loose. In the end I had worked my way back upto 2nd just two seconds behind the winner.

Final 2: and once again got a good clean start and pull out a small lead only to suffer a bit brain fade and drop a wheel off the track and a trip along the grass letting the lead group of cars past. Managed to recover back up into 2nd again by the time the race ended.

Final 3: and it was winner takes all as myself and two other drivers were tied on four points with two 2nds for myself and a 1st and 3rds for the other two drivers. Glad to say I got off to a clean start and had an error free race to take the much needed win with 2nd place driver keeping the pressure on, never being more than a few seconds behind. This was good enough to give me the overall win with three points thanks to my 1st and 2nd and better qualifying position, talk about doing things the hard way lol.

Team Corally, who provide the main prizes for the top three overall championship class winners, have also agreed to provide 8 Corally Touring Car kits as the FTD draw prizes, one for each of the rounds of the 2010 STCC. This is a fantastic gesture by Corally and shows the loyalty and huge support that the Team Corally factory have for the Championship and all the drivers who support it........

Mark Fuller - 3rd overall in the TC2 class.
Round 2 took place this weekend at the Southend Club track. Renowned for being one of the most technical and unforgiving tracks going. It is fast, undulating and a challenge to string a complete round of laps together and be quick, as many a driver finds out. We were also using the new Team Corally 10.5 Pro/RED Series motor and running in the TC2 class (10.5T).

Adam Pryke - 5th overall in the TC2 class.
What a weekend, and a brilliant race day it was though........
Saturday, informal practice was under blue skies, and a hot sun, with a lot of track time going on. Arrived at the track Sunday morning to be greeted with overcast grey skies, first round of qualifying took place on a dry and very fast track, the 13.5 class track record got smashed by Jon Holloway with an 18/313.90, then it started to rain, then it started to absolutely pour it down while the top 10.5 drivers were out - brilliant, not!!! Proceedings were temporarily halted while we considered the situation, we decided to suspend the clock for approx 75 mins to allow the standing water clearance and the track surface to dry out - what an excellent job was done by the club.
I did consider dropping one final, but wanted to keep the racing as fair as possible since only one heat had been disadvantaged so after some quick calculations that we could still complete the full schedule, if we shortened the lunch break, we then restarted the clock and racing completed under a warm sun and dry track for the remainder of the day, and what an excellent day it was. The racing was so close and really fast, with leads swapping back and forth and some really close stuff, lap after lap after lap - so close that in all my years of racing it was the first time I have ever seen an absolute dead heat using the AMB timing for one final, then everyone went quiet after the initial cheers waiting for the official result from the timekeeper - a dead heat, absolutely brilliant racing by the drivers Mark Fuller and Bryan Loynes.
Congratulations to the Corally drivers, Mark Fuller - 3rd (TC2), Gary Sims - 4th (TC2) and Adam Pryke - 5th (TC2). Well done guys.
The next meeting is in 2 weeks time at the super big, super fast Brookland track.......
